Final Project: Publish Digitally

Following is the brief for this project.

We are required to adapt the iPad layout we have done in the previous project into iPhone. At the same time, to make our digital publication more interesting, we are advised to add in navigation and animations.

Before adapting iPad layout to iPhone, I started with designing the navigation button and add the navigation in inDesign.

This is the first design I created for "Contents" button.

However, this button does not fit the design for my digital publication, like an odd green box at the top.

Then I remove the green box and remain the line icon which is similar to the doodles in the publication. 

It looked better compared to the previous one, so I try with different placement. I tried putting it in the middle on the side, but it stands out as a content button. So I have to move it back to the top right corner where does not make it too obvious.

Then, I adapt the iPad layout to iPhone.

As the content is too cramped, Ms Lilian suggested separating the content into multiple pages.

I also made the content button more fun by changing the note icon to a smiley sun icon.

After finishing the navigation, I added animation to the doodles. The wiggling doodles are like adding the ingredients into the dish.

Reflection 

Experience
A complete digital publication requires a lot of test and trials. To make the publication more interesting, we can make use of the digital advantage which is to animate the visuals. Through this project, I got to see the difference between a navigated and animated publication and the one without. The reading experience is so much better with navigation and those animated visuals enhanced it.

Observation
I learned that we can do animation in inDesign, which I didn't know before. Even though I wanted to add more animation, but I think it has to be used moderately to avoid cumbersome.

Findings
After I published my digital publications online, I am very satisfied with the outcome. I think I've learned a lot throughout the whole process, thanks to Ms Lilian and Ms Ruby.
